Busy with trying to make his paw look decent, a heavy lump on his tail made Russetpaw jump. "Gotcha!" a tiny voice squeaked triumphantly. The apprentice turned and smiled lightly as he saw Horsekit, one of the sons of Patchstar, batting at Russetpaw's thick tail. 

"Need something, Horsekit?" The red tom asked, amusement sure in his voice. Horsekit looked up, surprised. 

"Oh, no. Just bored. Will you play with me?" the brown tom pleaded. Russetkit purred and nodded, leading the kit away to a spot in the clearing where they could play mossball, or maybe cat and mouse.
